ABOUT THE PLAY
Imagine you have a one-night stand that went great, and you really hope not to forget them, but you do. Then, months later, you run into them again, but this time, you’re with your mother. Now, imagine you meet a ballsy, and randy 90-year-old woman, who begrudgingly lives in a Senior Living Center, and brags how she “can flip a trick in a wheelchair.”
Well, this is exactly what happens to Charlie.
Charlie is the son of Virginia and much to his surprise, becomes her caregiver. He becomes overwhelmed as he learns she was a pot-smoking hippie that lived in the back of a VW Van along with other family secrets. Why is he learning this now and who is she really? Who is he really?
Sadly, he only has a matter of time to assemble the pieces of truths he has learned, as he’s losing her to dementia. The days seem to grow dark for him until the ballsy 90-year-old woman and the one-night stand shed light to help him discover the new journey that awaits him.

NICK RAFELLO
PLAYWRIGHT
Nick is an award-winning playwright with his one-man show, YEAH, THAT HAPPENED and with A MIST UPON THE WINDOW in its original “short-play” format, both shows directed by Sam Viverito.
A MIST is based on actual conversations Nick had with his two grandmothers as well as when he was a nurse’s aide in a convalescent home back in the late 1970s. When Nick wrote this play, he had no idea it would take off as it did. It won a JUDGE AWARD and two AUDIENCE AWARDS at the EdgeFest in Milledgeville, GA and at the Weathervane Theatre in Akron, OH, it placed in the top 10 at the Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest, IL and won BEST SHORT-PLAY along with BEST ACTOR (John Carhart) and BEST ACTRESS (Katherine Argo) in the Winter Festival in New York City.
Nick originally came to NYC in 1983 as a professional singer/dancer and performed in such Broadway National Tours as A Chorus Line, Fiddler on the Roof (starring Theodore Bikel), Chicago, Sweet Charity (dir/chor by Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon). He was also a Stand-up Comic (proudly labeled the “Gay Don Rickels”), studied improvisation with the Groundlings-East, and performed numerous comedy skits on the old Conan O’Brien Late Night Show to name a few.
Nick would like to thank the late Michael Hotopp (“7/14”) and Sam Viverito for their never-ending encouragement and letting him feel safe when he lived his life as a run-on sentence. And of course, special thanks to Jim Rosenbloom, Nick’s partner of 17 years, for understanding that when he is talking to himself, he’s really having a conversation with his imaginary friends he just created on paper.
A Mist Upon the Window is dedicated to all the caretakers out there that help those that still want to remember.
